Civil Marriage

Many Hotels and Resorts in Mauritius and tour operators offer a special service to its customers for assistance with legal marriage procedures. In some luxury hotels, the Wedding Coordinator will organise transfers and accompany the spouses to complete their formalities.
When two non-citizens wish to marry in Mauritius they must apply for a certificate of non-citizen/non-resident that should reach the Central Civil Status Office at least one month before the intended date of marriage.

A civil marriage may be celebrated after one day of publication of the certificate.
Upon arrival in Mauritius, the couple should call on the Registrar of Civil Status, Central Civil Status Office, for verification of their original documents.
The following documents must be provided in order to marry in Mauritius:
Two photocopies of each birth certificate drawn up in English or French. The birth certificate must have been issued within the previous 3 months.
Two photocopies of each passport (the 1st three pages only or main information pages). Relevant documents in respect of divorce, widow/widower or change of name. In addition to above documents, French nationals should produce a "Certificat de capacité de mariage".
A certificate of noncitizen and non-resident is issued to the parties in Mauritius after verification of their documents whose date of issue shall not be more than 3 months.
The marriage is celebrated in the office or in any private premises by the Civil Status Officer of the locality where the parties will reside after a publication of banns of 24 hours. If any party cannot produce any civil status document, he may instead produce an affidavit sworn in his country of residence or in such
form as the Registrar of Civil Status may approve. With regards to fees for weddings held in the civil status office, no payment is required. If the wedding is celebrated in the hotel or any
private premises, a payment of MUR 5000 should be made at the Central Civil Status Office.Two witnesses should be present at time of the marriage ceremony.
