An eagerly awaited event that brings people together

From 14 to 18 July 2025, the Complexe Sportif National de Côte D’or was the venue for the Jeux Inter-Collèges, an event that brought together more than 11,000 pupils from 155 secondary schools in Mauritius and Rodrigue. After a break of many years, this competition marked a long-awaited return, perhaps a symbol of the revival of school sport on the island.

An official and committed organisation

The official opening was honoured by the presence of Youth and Sports Minister Deven Nagalingum and Education Minister Mahend Gungapersad, who underlined the importance of sport as a vehicle for discipline, friendship and social cohesion. Their message emphasised the role of the Games in offering young people a positive alternative to social challenges, in particular the fight against drugs.

A variety of disciplines and a competitive atmosphere

The students competed in 5 disciplines :

  • Athletisme
  • Tennis de table
  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Badminton

These events took place at a number of sporting venues across the island, culminating in the athletics finals at the Complexe Sportive National de Côte D’or, where the atmosphere was particularly electric.

Saint Mary’s College boys in the spotlight

St Mary’s College confirmed its status as one of the favourites by winning the men’s overall ranking. Thanks to rigorous teamwork and solid preparation, the boys accumulated valuable points in all disciplines.

Among the stand-out performances :

  • Terence Augustin, who won the 400 metres in the 18-20 category with an impressive time of 48.9 seconds.
  • The boys’ relay team clinched the gold medal, showcasing great coordination and team spirit.

These results reflect the excellence of the sports staff and the commitment of the students to sport. Above all, they were able to combine performance with respect for sporting values.

Damien Rosette, an athlete but also a passionate photographer

During this special event, Damien had the honor of being the official photographer. Under the scorching sun and after hours of walking, he stayed true to his motto: “à la poursuite du cliché parfait” (in pursuit of the perfect shot). And judging by the results, his photos were definitely worth it.

An experience rich in educational values

Beyond the medals and results, the 2025 Inter-College Games were above all an opportunity to promote essential values such as discipline, respect and solidarity. Sport once again proved its role as a vehicle for education and social cohesion, bringing together young people from all backgrounds around a common goal.

A promising future for school sport

There’s no denying it, this year’s event was a real success, both in sporting and educational terms.  It shows that Mauritius can mobilise all these young talents and its institutions to make sport a lever for personal and collective development. The 2025 Inter-College Games are thus laying the foundations for a promising dynamic in the years to come.
